"You know what the fellow said – in Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace – and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock."

~Orson Welles

I can't decide if this is inspirational or depressing.

  1. In defense of the Swiss, they have also made quite a name for themselves in chocolates, bank accounts, and multitools. No one is a man until he or she owns a Swiss Army Knife.

  2. Side note: it is also enjoyable to picture the peace-loving Swiss Army wielding only these multitools as weapons. "I can tweeze out your eyes and then corkscrew your ear, ya!"
