Most of the actual arguments I'm privy to come down to the general concern that we're in the proverbial handbasket. That the people in power are either evil, wrong, or incompetent, and the self-interest that made us an economic powerhouse is now hurtling us towards insolvency and possible class warfare. A few people I know actually think that last part is a good idea, because the system is so weighed down with ludicrous bits of radioactive hoop-jumping that we simply have to start over. Sometimes I wonder if the ratcheting-up of our cultural speed is simply us trying to run away from that.
