"There is a special place in hell for women who don't help other women."

~Madeleine Albright

A dear friend asked me what I thought about Alala, the Greek goddess who personifies the battle cry. This is what I came up with.

my Alala
is not so much a cry
as a welling up
from an underground spring
from which flow all the tools I need for kindness
my cry is not a sound with a beginning or an end
it's not an occurrence
like a river is not an occurrence
but a motion
with many currents that tangle through
today the tangles look like the faces of my sisterhood
faces attached to the bodyhearts that we play like music and protect
like secrets
the river may change colors and
shapes
from curve to bend
but the well doesn't dry
up
out
or otherwise
