"The really important kind of freedom involves attention and awareness and discipline, and being able truly to care about other people and to sacrifice for them over and over in myriad petty, unsexy ways every day.

~David Foster Wallace

I prefer day-in-day-out-random-Tuesday kindness to a knight in shining armor any day.

  1. To me, the two are not mutually exclusive. A knight in shining armor will make me tea when I am sick, kill scary bugs so I can avoid the bad karma, and tell me blue looks good on me. :)

  2. I guess I was referring to the type of person who likes to make grand gestures to make up for the lack of little ones. In the end, I guess it's all titular :)

  3. I see your point. I also enjoy the categorization of small kindnesses as "unsexy." True, and not a bad thing.
